Edgar Wright to Direct Neil Gaiman’s Fortunately the Milk, Johnny Depp to Star

So here’s something to look forward to: Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed children’s book Fortunately, the Milk is heading to the big screen and there is a veritable dream team of creative talent coming together to make it happen. The book was published in 2013 with illustrations by Skottie Young in the U.S. and Chris Riddell in the U.K., and it is a wacky adventure that involves pirates, dinosaurs, aliens and time travel (among other things). Clearly this is a story that only the director of Shaun of the Dead, the star of The Pirates of the Caribbean and one-half of Flight of the Conchords could bring to life. Hit the jump for more details.
According to THR, 20th Century Fox is currently in early negotiations to pick up a pitch for a big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Fortunately, the Milk. It is being planned as a live-action / animation hybrid with Edgar Wright directing and Johnny Depp on board to star. Bret McKenzie (Flight of the Conchords) will write the script.
Edgar Wright is currently in pre-production on his next film Baby Driver, so this would likely follow that project although he also has a few other things in development. It is just one of several Neil Gaiman stories currently in the process of being adapted along with The Graveyard Book, which Ron Howard is supposed to direct for Disney, and How to Talk to Girls at Parties, which is being lined up as the next film by John Cameron Mitchell (Shortbus, Rabbit Hole). Are you looking forward to a big screen version of Fortunately, the Milk?
