Earlier this month, Marvel surprised everyone by announcing a new entry to Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Ant-Man and the Wasp. The upcoming sequel would obviously bring back Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, this time giving Evangeline Lily a chance to suit up alongside him as The Wasp. At the time of the announcement, there was no mention of who might direct. Now this week we are hearing that Ant-Man director Peyton Reed will most likely be returning to helm the follow-up. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, Peyton Reed is in negotiations with Marvel to direct Ant-Man and the Wasp. The news isn’t a huge surprise and it continues Marvel’s habit of bringing back directors for sequels whenever possible. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on July 6th, 2018, after both Black Panther and The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 (the former of which still does not have a director).

There are also no writers selected for Ant-Man and the Wasp as of yet. Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, Adam McKay and Paul Rudd all took writing credits on the first film and it seems unlikely that Wright or Cornish will be back. Adam McKay remains a distinct possibility, however, and there are some who thought he might get a chance to direct the sequel since he was originally courted to direct Ant-Man. He had to bow out due to scheduling issues, but Kevin Feige has maintained that he might direct a Marvel movie in the near future. Are you happy to see Peyton Reed return for the Ant-Man sequel or were you hoping for someone different this time around?
