Monday Morning Box Office Report: Goosebumps Golden, Crimson Peak Crumbles

Despite a strong start for Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak at the beginning of the weekend, the R-rated gothic horror romance ultimately fell short of expectations, earning just $12.85 million and settling for fourth place. The good news is that it also made $13 million overseas, but that is still well short of the film’s $55 million budget and there is some strong horror competition coming up next weekend. The family horror flick Goosebumps ultimately won out with $23.5 million, which was probably to be expected, although that was a little weaker than expected as well. Meanwhile The Martian fell to second place while Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies opened in third with $15.38 million. Sony’s other family-friendly October offering Hotel Transylvania 2 rounded out the top 5.
