Steven Spielberg Hints at Indiana Jones 5 with Harrison Ford

Although Disney still has yet to announce any official plans for a new Indiana Jones movie, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made it clear earlier this year that a new movie will indeed be happening at some point. Earlier this year there were rumours that Chris Pratt might be under consideration to take over the role of Indy with the assumption being that Harrison Ford would be too old to return for another adventure at age 73. This week, however, Steven Spielberg has thrown that assumption into question with an off-hand remark that implies Ford might still be doing at least one more. The quote came during an interview for Bridge of Spies, where he talked about his frequent collaborations with Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford:
“We’ve gotta figure this out because now Tom is tied with Harrison Ford: Harrison and I did four movies, Tom and I have done four movies. Now I’ll probably do an Indy 5 with Harrison. It’ll be five for Harrison, four for Tom… I’ve got to make another one with Tom, so that will be five for Tom, five for Harrison. And I think I’m going to leapfrog that way for the rest of my career. With Daniel Day-Lewis in everything else!”
Obviously some of this is being said in jest, but it does make it seem like Spielberg has at least been thinking about another Indy film with Ford. We also know that Ford supposedly still wants to do one more himself. However, it’s also possible that the next Indy film will be a “passing of the torch” and perhaps Ford will play an older version of the character while someone else will play a younger Indy. Either way, we know that Spielberg’s next movie is Ready Player One, so another Indiana Jones movie would still be at least a couple of years away. Do you think we’ll still get to see Harrison Ford play Indy one more time?
