The Expendables 4 Moving Forward

After The Expendables 3 ended up being the lowest grossing installment in the The Expendables series, it looked like the throwback action franchise may have finally fired its last bullet. The trailers had also promoted it as “one last ride”, but then who believes marketing nowadays? Either way, when the movie was released on DVD and Blu-ray last year, Stallone blamed the poor performance on the PG-13 rating and hinted at the possibility of another R-rated installment. Now this week it looks like The Expendables 4 is indeed happening although most of the details are still unknown. Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to Variety, Nu Image / Millennium Films have secured a financing deal with SP International Pictures on behalf of SSXH Beijing and Max Screen Film Distribution for their upcoming movies The Expendables 4 and Security. Security is a $15 million action-thriller starring Antonio Banderas and Ben Kingsley while The Expendables 4 has an estimated budget of over $100 million. Both films may include locations in China although they are not expected to be considered full co-productions.

At the moment, there is no word on who might direct The Expendables 4 and there has been no word on casting either. Stallone in particular has been silent on the subject, which is somewhat uncharacteristic for him. There is also no mention of the all-female spin-off The Expendabelles, which was rumoured to have cast Kate Beckinsale and Naomi Watts earlier this year. The Expendables 4 will shoot in 2016 for a 2017 release… are you looking forward to another adventure with Barney and the boys?
