The Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! Trailer

hailcaesar

After writing scripts for Unbroken and Bridge of Spies, The Coen Brothers will return to their director’s chairs early next year with a movie of their own called Hail, Caesar!. Set in the 1950s during the Hollywood Golden Age, it looks like a return to the more straightforward comedy of something like Burn After Reading or even The Big Lebowski. The movie stars Josh Brolin as a fixer named Eddie Mannix who is called upon to solve a mystery when one of the studio’s biggest stars, Baird Whitlock (played by George Clooney) goes missing. With a supporting cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Dolph Lundgren, Jonah Hill, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and Clancy Brown, the other mystery here is why the movie is being released in February instead of December. Hail, Caesar! hits theatres on Feb. 5th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

On the plus side: Clancy Brown is in this.

Probably the first time in a while I bothered to check out a Coen Brothers trailer. Coen Brothers are very likely at the top of my list of favorite directors and I already know I’m in for any movie, so typically don’t bother. That said, also the trailer was great. Looks like it has the wackiness of Burn After Reading but with a hint of Barton Fink, at least in subject matter and being a period piece. Can’t wait.

  • Lori Cerny

    I’m all-in for anything Coen.

  • Lori Cerny

On the plus side: Jonah Hill.
    BUT: George Clooney.

Outside of maybe Intolerable Cruelty (it’s been a while since I’ve seen it), I’ve enjoyed Clooney in Coen Brothers’ movies like O Brother Where Art Thou and to a lesser extent Burn After Reading.

Oh yes, yes, yes, I am so in, didn’t even need to watch the whole trailer. Sign me up. Take my money. I’m in.
