Marvel Announces Ant-Man and the Wasp Movie Plus Three Mystery Titles

Although we originally thought that Marvel had long since finalized the line-up for Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they were already forced to make at least one major adjustment to include a new Spider-Man movie in 2017. Now it appears that they are making a few more adjustments to the schedule before Captain America: Civil War hits theatres next May. Today they have announced a surprising addition to their slate: an Ant-Man sequel titled Ant-Man and the Wasp. In addition, they have shifted the dates for Black Panther and Captain Marvel and set release dates for three more unknown movies in 2020. Marvel’s upcoming release schedule now looks like this:

  • Captain America: Civil War — May 6, 2016
  • Doctor Strange — November 4, 2016
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — May 5, 2017
  • Untitled Spider-Man Film — July 28, 2017
  • Thor: Ragnarok — November 3, 2017
  • Black Panther — February 16, 2018
  • The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 — May 4, 2018
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp — July 6, 2018
  • Captain Marvel — March 8, 2019
  • The Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 — May 3, 2019
  • Inhumans — July 12, 2019
  • Untitled Marvel Film — May 1, 2020
  • Untitled Marvel Film — July 10, 2020
  • Untitled Marvel Film — November 6, 2020

At the moment, it’s unclear where Phase Three will end and Phase Four will begin. Putting out an Ant-Man sequel so soon is pretty unexpected, especially considering that the movie is their lowest grossing film since Captain America: The First Avenger (it has now made $409 million worldwide). However, it is possible that they are responding to the demand for more female superheroes and the criticism that Wasp only showed up during a post-credit stinger. No word yet on whether Peyton Reed will return to direct. Are you looking forward to Ant-Man and the Wasp? What other movies do you think they might be working on?

Is 2018 really that soon for an Ant-Man sequel? Two-three years seems like the standard time for most Marvel franchises.

Now that is one heck of an insane production schedule. It’ll be hard enough producing the Big 3…Spiderman & Avengers..but adding in the rest of the MCU franchises? I’m telling ya…buy Disney stock. They’ll be the first to pass Apple. To think, at the same time they’ll be building out the Star Wars universe, adding new Star Wars/MCU theme parks, Pixar…..$$.

  • At this point Disney should start building their own movie theaters since with all their IP’s they will always have a film or 4 showing… Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Disney Animation, and plain old Disney Studios. Our they could just start acquiring theater chains and be able to keep 100% of the ticket sales for the duration of the film’s run… Plus they could continually re-release classics into their owned theaters to keep that sweet money nectar flowing. I’d take the kids to the theater in January to see Dumbo or Lady & the Tramp, in a heartbeat!
