The Ring Reboot Pushed Back to 2016

If you were wondering why we still had yet to see a trailer or really anything at all from Paramount’s upcoming reboot / sequel to The Ring, this week we have been given an answer. The horror movie, entitled Rings, will not be hitting its Nov. 13th release date and instead has been pushed back to an unspecified release date in 2016. The previous release slot put it up against By the Sea starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the Chilean miner drama The 33 and holiday comedy Love the Coopers. None of these would seem to fall in the same demographic as Rings, so what could be the reason for the delay?

According to Variety, the decision to delay Rings came just after Paramount scheduled Adam McKay’s The Big Short and Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa for release in December. Considering that both movies will likely have awards campaigns, it seems that they wanted to focus their marketing resources on those films instead. However, it is also possible that they are lacking confidence in Rings, which will likely get a release in the first quarter of 2016 instead.

Directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall), Rings stars Matilda Lutz, Alex Roe and Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) and takes place 13 years after the events of the first film. It’s been a decade since The Ring Two hit theatres, and at this point it is still not clear if audiences are anxious to continue the story. Are you looking forward to Rings or do you think this is destined to flop?
