We’ve known for a while know that a sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service is in the works and Matthew Vaughn is apparently attached to direct once again. He will also be involved as a producer and co-writer as he and Jane Goldman are reportedly working on the story now and trying to figure out if Colin Firth will have a role. In the meantime, however, Vaughn is also attached to direct a Flash Gordon reboot for Fox and now he has just signed on to direct another spy movie for MGM. This one is based on the bestselling novel I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes. The plot synopsis is as follows:

“A breakneck race against time… and an implacable enemy. An anonymous young woman murdered in a run-down hotel, all identifying characteristics dissolved by acid. A father publicly beheaded in the blistering heat of a Saudi Arabian public square. A notorious Syrian biotech expert found eyeless in a Damascus junkyard. Smoldering human remains on a remote mountainside in Afghanistan. A flawless plot to commit an appalling crime against humanity. One path links them all, and only one man can make the journey. Pilgrim.”

Hayes will adapt his own novel, having previously written screenplays for such films as The Road Warrior, Dead Calm and Payback. Vaughn will also produce and co-finance through his production company Marv Films. It is not clear if this will come before or after Kingsman 2 but both are expected to go into production next year. Are you looking forward to a more serious spy thriller from Matthew Vaughn?
