One of the movies that’s been generating a ton of buzz on the festival circuit this year is the martial arts epic The Assassin. Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien (Flight of the Red Balloon, A City of Sadness) took home Best Director from this year’s Cannes Film Festival and the film has already been chosen as Taiwan’s entry to the 2016 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category. The movie takes place during the Tang Dynasty and stars Shu Qi (Journey to the West, The Transporter) as the daughter of a general who was abducted by a nun and trained as an assassin before being sent back to her hometown 13 years later. Well Go USA will release The Assassin in U.S. theatres on Oct. 16th; check out the full trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Niiiicccccee. I’m not quite sure if this movie will mesmerize or bore me, but it just seems like one of those singular auteur films that demands to be seen. Too bad I won’t get the chance to see this on the big screen without traveling to another state.
