Prometheus and Blade Runner Sequels Get Titles

Following up yesterday’s Prometheus 2 news, today Ridley Scott has decided to reveal another major piece of information about the upcoming sequel. Up until now, we didn’t know what the next movie would be called but the assumption was that it would probably continue to carry the Prometheus name in order to maintain a bit of separation from the Alien series. However, it is now looking like that won’t be the case as Ridley Scott has announced that the new title will actually be Alien: Paradise Lost. Here’s what he had to say about it:
“It’s going to be Alien: Paradise Lost now. You know the poem? I doubt you’ve ever been through it, but the poem’s a book, Paradise Lost. It sounds intellectual but there’s a similarity to it. That’s where it stops.”
Using the Alien title is a surprising choice, especially considering that it could cause some confusion with Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel which is also in the works. It’s possible that it was just a business decision but it’s not like Prometheus didn’t do well (it made $400 million worldwide). The second part of the title apparently refers to the Engineer home planet, which has been dubbed “paradise” by some.
In related news, we are hearing that the Blade Runner sequel may be titled Blade Runner: Androids Dream. While this has yet to be confirmed, it is based on a domain name that was recently registered by Warner Brothers, as discovered by the BBC. What do you think of these new titles?
