Paramount’s 2014 attempt to reboot Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan character with Jack Ryan:
Shadow Recruit
was met with a resounding yawn from moviegoers, earning just $135 million worldwide. After Chris Pine stated that a sequel was highly unlikely, it looked like the character was destined to remain strictly on the page for the next little while. However, this week we’re hearing that Paramount will give the character a shot on the small screen instead. A potential Jack Ryan TV series is in development and they’ve already got some pretty big names behind it. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, Paramount TV, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Skydance Media are developing a TV series that would revolve around CIA analyst Jack Ryan. Former Lost writers Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland are on board as executive producers and there are supposedly multiple networks interested in the show. Their plan is not to directly adapt the books but rather offer “a new contemporary take on the character in his prime.”

Considering the number of TV shows based on movies right now (Paramount’s own Minority Report just premiered this week), this project makes a lot of sense. Also, given Carlton Cuse’s track record with recent shows like Bates Motel, The Strain, Colony and The Returned, there is a strong possibility that this could turn out to be something good. Roland also worked on the J.J. Abrams-produced shows Almost Human and Fringe. Would you watch a Jack Ryan TV series?
