Rupert Wyatt Drops Out of Gambit Movie

Just days after hearing that Channing Tatum may have finally landed a fantastic director for his Evel Knievel biopic, it appears that he has lost the director for a different upcoming film. Preparations were well underway for the X-Men spin-off Gambit, which was scheduled to shoot in New Orleans this November. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Gambler) had already signed on to direct back in June, but after some recent script changes extended the shoot, he has now reportedly been forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. Wyatt had this to say about the unfortunate situation:

“I was very much looking forward to working with my friend Channing and the team at Fox, but regrettably a push in the start date now conflicts with another project… I thank them for the opportunity, and I know that Gambit will make a terrific film.”

It is unclear what that other movie might be, but the assumption is that it must be a pretty big project in order for it to take precedence over Gambit. Tatum is still attached to star in the film, despite previous rumours that he might drop out himself. Lea Seydoux is also attached to play Bella Donna Boudreaux. Gambit is scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 7th, 2016… who else would you like to see in the director’s chair?
