Joaquin Phoenix to Reunite with M. Night Shyamalan for Next Movie

thevillage

The release of M. Night Shyamalan’s latest film The Visit is only a couple of weeks away and at the moment no one really seems to be talking about it. While that might be a favourable situation that allows the movie to take everyone by surprise, it could also mean that it is simply destined to flop. Certainly, Shyamalan’s reputation is still in pretty bad shape after a handful of major disappointments and there is a lot at stake for him here (especially considering that he financed it himself). At any rate, he seems to have enough confidence in The Visit that he is already preparing for a follow-up, which will reportedly find him reteaming with a familiar face. Hit the jump to find out what we know about M. Night Shyamalan’s next movie.

According to Deadline, Joaquin Phoenix is in negotiations to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s next feature film. The duo worked together on both Signs and The Village, the former of which was Shyamalan’s most successful movie aside from The Sixth Sense. The currently untitled project is expected to shoot this November in the director’s hometown of Philadelphia.

What we don’t know is what the movie will be about. It seems to be a safe assumption that it is a horror film since Jason Blum will once again be producing it. It is also said to be another lower budget film. Aside from that, we don’t have much to go on, but the addition of Joaquin Phoenix certainly can’t hurt. No word on what this means for the other project he’s been developing for a while now, Labor of Love starring Bruce Willis. Are you excited about the prospect of a Joaquin Phoenix / M. Night Shyamalan reunion?

Joaquin is too good for M. Night at this point. Really hope The Visit puts his dying career to rest.

I actually quite liked The Village, besides the last 15 minutes aka the twist, which I didn’t think was necessary to finish that story.

Agreed. I actually like that it’s got the architecture of a Twilight Zone episode stretched to a feature length film. I totally went for the ride and enjoyed it.

I go the other way. I hope that after these struggles, in the future, M. Night gets his mojo back, and gets some good movies going.

It would be great if he could get back to the quality of Sixth Sense/Unbreakable/Signs even, but I’m afraid he’s lost it. I thought his departure out of his typical style i.e. Last Airbender and After Earth would help but sadly those were pretty bad.
