Deadwood Movie Back in Development at HBO?

Although HBO’s Entourage movie wasn’t nearly as successful as the Sex and the City movies, it hasn’t stopped the pay TV giant from considering more feature films based on their original TV properties. We’ve been hearing rumours for years about a possible Deadwood movie after David Milch’s gritty western drama was cut short following its third season back in 2006. At the time, they were planning two made-for-TV movies to wrap up the show and they reportedly offered Milch the possibility of a shortened fourth season as well, but neither plan came to fruition. Now this week there are brand new rumblings about a potential Deadwood movie, but is there any truth to them? Hit the jump to find out what we know.
Earlier this week, actor Garret Dillahunt (who played both James McCall and Francis Wolcott on Deadwood), put out the following tweet:
So uh….I'm hearing credible rumors about a #Deadwood movie. #Everybodypray

HBO has since confirmed to Variety that “very preliminary discussions” are underway, but they did not elucidate beyond that. Back in 2011, David Milch told Esquire that he was still holding out hope that there would be more Deadwood in the near future. Obviously the hardest part would be bringing all of the actors back together, but now that Justified has wrapped up its final season, Timothy Olyphant should at least be free. Would you be interested in a Deadwood movie or should they just leave it alone at this point?
