Bill Murray Cameo Confirmed for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters

Update: Birth. Movies. Death. has a report on what Murray’s role might be, based on a previous draft of the script.
After years of being the sole holdout for the proposed Ghostbusters 3, it appears that Bill Murray has finally agreed to appear in a new Ghostbusters movie after all. The catch, however, is that he will probably not be reprising his role as Peter Venkman. Murray was recently spotted on the set of Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, and we are hearing that he is there to film some sort of cameo. The exact details of the cameo are unknown, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating. Hit the jump for more details.
The news of Bill Murray’s cameo in the new Ghostbusters was confirmed by THR, although they don’t have any additional info beyond that. Back when the cast for the new movie was announced, it was being reported that they wanted Murray to play the Walter Peck villain role. That does not seem to be what’s happening here, however. Word on the street is that there will be another original cast member making an appearance in the reboot as well (if you don’t already know about it, it’s not hard to guess who it is).
In a way, it’s not that surprising to hear that Bill Murray is appearing in the film. He has been pretty supportive of the new all-female cast, but you have to wonder how Aykroyd feels about this since he was trying to get Murray on board with his version for so long. There continue to be rumours about additional Ghostbusters movies in development, but Ivan Reitman recently denied this (which directly contradicts his own announcement from earlier this year). Either way, are you excited to have Bill Murray involved in the new Ghostbusters?
