Prison Break Officially Returning to TV

First it was 24, then The X-Files, and now Fox is digging up another once popular show for a special limited event series. We heard rumours a couple of months ago that a Prison Break comeback might be in the cards, but now this week the TV network has officially confirmed the news. Plot details are still being kept under wraps but it looks as though both Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller will return (they also recently starred together on CW’s The Flash as villains Heat Wave and Captain Cold). Fox Chairman and CEO Dana Walden had this to say about the announcement:
“I would describe it as a bit of a sequel, it picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. It definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series and for a new audience… It’ll start after where we left the Scofields in the final season.”
It’s a bit surprising to me that there is still interest in this show since I was under the impression that most people stopped watching after the titular prison break actually happened. I know I did. However, the show did run for four seasons on Fox before ending with a TV movie called Prison Break: The Final Break. Creator Paul Scheuring will also be back and will supposedly “take a detour” around some of the events from the final movie (which he was not involved in).
No word yet on when this might air but they are said to be in the early development stages. The network is aiming for a 10-episode story arc and they fully expect it to go straight to series. Are you looking forward to the return of Prison Break?
