Tom Cruise is back in control. After a handful of soft debuts over the past few years for movies like Oblivion, Edge of Tomorrow and Jack Reacher, he has once again found his groove with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. The fifth Mission: Impossible film had a solid start, taking in a commanding $56 million over the weekend ($121 million worldwide). That’s the second highest opening for an M:I movie behind M:I2 which made $57.8 million back in 2000, although Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was a platform release and difficult to compare. Elsewhere, the Vacation reboot did okay, earning $14.8 million for the three-day weekend and $21.1 million since Wednesday. Ant-Man fell to #3 followed by Minions, while Pixels dropped all the way to fifth place.
