Before Danny Boyle’s biopic Steve Jobs hits theatres this October, Magnolia Films will release a new documentary from Alex Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Taxi to the Dark Side) called Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine. While there have been a handful of documentaries about the Apple co-founder before (including a feature-length “lost” interview that was also released theatrically by Magnolia), the difference is that this one supposedly paints a pretty unflattering view of the man, calling into question the widespread perception of him as a hero. Apple employees are rumoured to have walked out of a SXSW screening of the film, but it remains to be seen if Gibney is bringing up some solid points or if he is simply slinging mud. (I fully expect the movie to be “debunked” and dismissed within a week of its release, whether it is legit or not.) Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine hits select theatres and VOD on Sept. 4th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
