Vacation Directors Set to Write Spider-Man Reboot

John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, the writer / director duo behind the upcoming Vacation quasi-reboot, are in talks to write Marvel and Sony’s latest joint Spider-Man reset. They were also previously on the shortlist of possible directors, though that gig eventually went to Clown and Cop Car helmer Jon Watts. The two scribes were the last major pieces of the puzzle needed to get the movie ready for production so that the friendly neighborhood superhero can swing into North American theaters July 28, 2017. In related news, the casting of Aunt May was also recently announced. Hit the jump for the full story.
The new take on Spider-Man will be Daley and Goldstein’s fifth screenplay together to make it to the big screen, with 2011’s Horrible Bosses being their first, followed up by The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, and Vacation. Their Spider-Man script will center around a young Peter Parker still in high school, though it’s confirmed not to be an origin story. Taking over as Parker this time around is The Impossible and How I Live Now actor Tom Holland who will make his debut as the character in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War hitting theaters next year.
Just as Captain America: The Winter Soldier was molded after conspiracy thrillers and Ant-Man after heist films, producer Kevin Feige has previously said the new take on the webslinger will be a “John Hughes” type of movie. It is currently unknown exactly who and what the film will be about as of yet aside from the high school setting, though Aunt May seems to be a lock with Marisa Tomei recently being reported to be in final negotiations for the role. Do you have high hopes for the next Spider-Man reboot?
