New to Theatres This Weekend: Ant-Man, Trainwreck, Mr. Holmes

The second Marvel movie of the summer hits theatres this weekend but it’s unlikely to open anywhere near as big as The Avengers: Age of Ultron. With a lesser known hero and middling reviews, Ant-Man could become one of the lowest grossing Marvel movies to date, but the unexpected success of Guardians of the Galaxy last year means anything is possible. Judd Apatow’s Trainwreck is the other wide release and it’s also a bit of a wild card… Apatow’s last two movies were considered disappointments, but Amy Schumer seems to be everywhere right now. In select theatres, we also have Ian McKellan playing an elderly Sherlock Holmes in Mr. Holmes, Woody Allen’s latest film Irrational Man starring Joaquin Phoenix, and Joshua Oppenheimer’s The Look of Silence, a follow-up to his Oscar-nominated documentary The Act of Killing.
