Jurassic World Director Rumored for Star Wars: Episode IX

After raking in more than $1.4 billion around the globe with Jurassic World, director Colin Trevorrow has understandably become a hot commodity in Hollywood. And if new rumors are to be believed, Trevorrow might have already found his next gigantic blockbuster with Star Wars: Episode IX. This is not be one of the Star Wars Anthology spin-offs but rather the official follow-up to both J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its sequel. Hit the jump for more details.
The rumor, coming from Heroic Hollywood, mentions Trevorrow has been in negotiations for the job for months, which in turn is the reason why he won’t return to direct Jurassic World 2. Apparently producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall enjoyed working with Trevorrow so much that this likely put him high on the list for Star Wars: Episode IX. It is believed that Trevorrow will get announced officially at Comic-Con later today by Lucasfilm.
Whether or not Trevorrow gets to direct the third chapter in the new trilogy, there’s plenty of Star Wars we need to get through before that will hit theaters in 2019. First there is Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Episode VII) by J.J. Abrams hitting theaters in North America on December 18, followed by Episode VIII by Rian Johnson in 2017 and plenty of spin-offs in between.
