This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: Get Hard, While We’re Young, Kumiko the Treasure Hunter

Well it’s another slow week for DVD and Blu-ray releases in terms of quantity, but there are still a handful of quality titles worth checking out. Noteworthy new arrivals including the Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard, Noah Baumbach’s latest film While We’re Young and the indie drama Kumiko the Treasure Hunter (which is loosely based on the true story of a Japanese woman who went in search of the buried suitcase from Fargo). On Blu-ray, we’ve got a couple of Criterion releases (Five Easy Pieces and Valerie and Her Week of Wonders), Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky, Penelope Spheeris’ landmark punk documentary The Decline Of Western Civilization, and a trilogy of post-apocalyptic films from Italian director Enzo G. Castellari. What will you be picking up this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

Regarding KUMIKO, the FARGO aspect wasn’t true. From what I understand, the woman was depressed, lost her job and traveled to MN because her lover either lived there or she had spent time with him there. She committed suicide by overdose. However, that part in the movie where a cop actually contacts a Chinese restaurant for help is apparently based on fact.

I’m clearly one of the few people on the planet who thinks Vanilla Sky is a masterpiece so will be picking that one up. The only Cameron Crowe movie I really loved…now there’s a movie I wish I could experience for the first time again.
