New Ghostbusters Suits Revealed, Channing Tatum Ghostbusters Spin-Off May Be Dead

With the new Ghostbusters movie now in production in New York City, director Paul Feig has been doling out occasional glimpses of the film via Twitter. This week he has unveiled a couple of key components to the overall visual design of the new movie: the Ghostbusters uniforms and proton packs. The new jump suits seem to be keeping in line with the original movies, although they have added some stripes that look to be reflective material. As for the proton packs, they actually have little hearts on them if you look closely. Pretty ballsy move if you ask me!

On a somewhat related note, there have also been some recent updates on the other Ghostbusters spin-off that was previously rumoured to be in development with Channing Tatum. It seems that the project may be losing steam, although the dream of an Avengers-style universe of interconnected Ghostbusters films is supposedly still being pursued. Hit the jump for more details and also to check out the new photos.

While doing press for Magic Mike XXL, Channing Tatum has been fielding plenty of questions about all of his other upcoming projects including the Ghostbusters spin-off he was attached to star in. Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) were supposedly being lined up to direct from a script by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3). But now Tatum says that it’s not likely to happen anymore. He told Howard Stern that the project had become “messy” because there are “a lot of people in the Ghostbusters pool.” His producing and writing partner Reid Carolin also told Screen Rant that it’s “too complicated” and that there are “a lot of things going on with that brand and I just feel like it’s over-saturated.”

This all seems to be related to the fact that there are several other directors developing Ghostbusters projects, and as previously announced by Ivan Reitman, they want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in various ways. According to a report by Bad Ass Digest from a few months ago, there were at least four Ghostbusters movies in the works, although now it might be down to just three. Either way, strange things are afoot and I’m not just talking about a Class I Supernatural Secretion. Are you interested in a connected universe of Ghostbusters movies? Are you disappointed that Channing Tatum’s movie may no longer be happening?

    Proton Pack is looking good

Looks like these things have been puked up. How apt.

Four movies? Are they intentionally trying to create some sort of shared Ghostbusters universe? Not sure if Ghostbusters can support that. It’s not Marvel or Star Wars.

Too bad about the Tatum movie. That was the one I was interested in the most.

They wear skirts? I have no interest in any of these movies that just redo junk from years ago. I liked the cartoon and toys when I was in first or second grade, but let’s just move on. Why not make Pokemon or something today’s kids will really enjoy. They still like Pokemon right?
