NBC Drops Donald Trump in Response to Derogatory Comments

It’s official… Donald Trump has made his final appearance on The Apprentice. This week he was on the receiving end of a job termination after several media partners severed ties with him in response to insensitive comments he made while announcing his candidacy for the President of the United States. He referred to Mexican immigrants as drug users, rapists and criminals, which led to Univision ending their partnership with Trump’s Miss Universe and Miss USA competitions. Now NBC has followed suit, dropping the same pageants while also removing Trump from Celebrity Apprentice for good. Here is the full statement from NBC:


“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.

To that end, the annual Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants, which are part of a joint venture between NBC and Trump, will no longer air on NBC. In addition, as Mr. Trump has already indicated, he will not be participating in The Apprentice on NBC.

Celebrity Apprentice is licensed from Mark Burnett’s United Artists Media Group and that relationship will continue.”

NBC had previously released a statement clarifying that they did not agree with Trump’s opinions, but after over 200,000 people signed an online petition urging them to dump Trump, they had no choice but to bow to the pressure. The court of public opinion has spoken! It’s amazing that all of this fallout has come after just one speech… we can only hope he will continue to “trump” himself as this ill-advised presidential bid continues. Either way, the show will apparently go on without The Donald. Who would you like to see host Celebrity Apprentice and will you still tune in without him? (Of course you will.)

  • Freedom of speech is to be allowed to say what ever you like (to a certain extent) without going to prison for it. Trump clearly will not go to prison for his speech.

    A private company can have what ever policy they like for what their employees are allowed to say.

    Everything comes with a price even freedom of speech. You say something that pisses people off you pay for it. That’s why we have slander laws, hate speech laws and laws against incitement of violence. Freedom of speech is not just a right it’s a responsibility.

    Freedom of speech is not an absolute whether you live in the United States or other free Western democratic country.

    We may have the right to freedom of speech but I’ve got the right to sue or fire your ass if I feel like it…ideals which also thrive in this country.

    Nothing is unlimited even Freedom of speech. Societal structures are a matter of checks and balances ( which is how our government is designed to operate) not unmitigated freedoms.

    Yes we may have tolerance and should strive for such but even tolerance has it’s limits. If we were all completely and absolutely tolerant, blacks would still be sitting in the back of buses, women wouldn’t be allowed to work or vote and Gays wouldn’t be able to marry.
