Nice one, guys. Always appreciate a Gamejunk E3 cast

  • CrandonBlaus

How is Frank going to deal with this insubordination from Andrew. How DARE he step on the toes of Frank in the introductions.

  • pcch7

Fuckin top notch from the very start here, Huck supplanting Frank as number 2 =D

  • pcch7

Destiny is awesome, love the gameplay. Get back in it Frank. Multiplayer is usually difficult but there’s always one or two others who suck at it too.

  • pcch7

I would think that Frank would get a lot out of games like Diablo and Destiny where there is so much gear and loot to get to improve your character.

  • pcch7

I posted about this on the gamejunk facebook, but you guys should try this game, Gang Beasts. So much fun to play with friends.

  • Lori Cerny

Is it me or is the ending cut-off?

I hear, “Is it me or…” And then the ‘cast is over.

  • Mark

Really Frank, you’re writing off Splatoon after 5 minutes?

The game is the best thing Nintendo has done in a while. The gyro controls are incredibly intuitive and fluid if you actually give them the chance. And you have to try the multiplayer, it’s the heart of the game.

This is what I don’t understand… people complain there is nothing new out there and that companies (particularly Nintendo) just re-hash and yet when they do something new people complain if they don’t get it straight away or if it doesn’t control the same as every other game.

I expected more from you Frank!

(I will agree however their E3 was awful…)

  • Sean

Yeah it sounds like it cuts off early for some reason. I’m hoping Frank’s upload just didn’t complete as opposed to him having to re-edit the whole thing again

  • Frankie Knuckles

I’m not writing it off, I just only played it for 5 minutes. Probably shouldn’t have even mentioned it.

  • Frankie Knuckles

I believe the download should be fixed now, I think it was just an uploading error.

  • LordAwesome

Fans don’t want Shenmue 3 to be an “accessible”, homogenized, generic piece of AAA garbage. They want it to be idiosyncratic.

  • Colin

Yes, this is a case in which the game is simply not for the GJ Krew… making Shenmue more accessible by toning down the [seemingly] mundane activities that Ryo needs to accomplish day-to-day would be like stripping out the sim elements of Gran Turismo (or Forza, if you’re Frank) in order to make it more accessible to people who like Daytona USA.

A big part of why people like Shenmue is the deliberate pacing and everyday tasks, and to remove them would be to fundamentally change what the game is. It’s important to remember that in addition to an adventure game, Shenmue (primarily the first) is also a window into small town life in Japan in the 1980s… like if François Truffaut or Yasujir? Ozu made a video game.

If you ever have Jay back on the show, which seems like it may happen sometime in 2016 after the release of Uncharted 4, I think it would be interesting to have him play the original Shenmue. On FJ, he’s often spoken about film being a way for people to experience the a time and place that they may not have been alive to see, and in many ways this is what Yu Suzuki attempted to accomplish with his depiction of 1980s Yokosuka.

  • Colin

Gyro controls are terrible, but Splatoon is great… definitely the most fun arena shooter to come out in quite some time.

  • Thurston

    Phenomenal podcast gentlemen. Loved it!

  • Sean

The Mixcloud embed should be fixed now as well.

  • Sean

Considering that Jay couldn’t make it through the first 5 minutes of Heavy Rain, I don’t know that there’s much hope for him and Shenmue.

I remain intrigued by the concept of Shenmue. Idiosyncratic is fine by me. I just wish that there was a way to streamline it so that I could actually have time to play it, but maybe you guys are right in that it would also ruin the experience.

  • Colin

Really enjoy your E3 annual breakdowns despite the fact that our opinions on games seem to differ greatly… thanks for your thorough analysis!

  • pcch7

I do agree with Frank that The Last Guardian stuff wasn’t that special. Sure it could be a great game but that wasn’t mindblowing although the crowd applauded everything.. I’ll tell you what would make me cum in my own mouth is if Valve rappelled down from the roof in the middle of a show and announced Portal 3.

  • Jay Cheel

    Not a chance in hell.

  • Colin

What if I described it as the video game equivalent of Blue Velvet meets The 400 Blows?

  • Jay Cheel

I would say I’d much rather spend that time rewatching Blue Velvet or The 400 Blows.

  • devolutionary

Heh, surely it would be funny to watch Jay getting frustrated virtually running a forklift in a stockyard.

  • Bandit Manatee

I totally remember the Mission Impossible game you hated. I rented it and while it was clunky as hell and pretty obtuse it did have some cool undercover stuff and levels where you were infiltrating parties and using disguises and the face masks which I thought was neat. Totally can see why you disliked it if you were looking for another Goldeneye though.

  • devolutionary

It was a layered but heavily flawed video game (uneven design and awful combat) that went through a couple years of production hell. Frankly, it was a miracle that ocean was able to release it after all; nearly got cancelled in the middle of development. It does say something that I was able to complete it twice though.

  • pcch7

My friend had it. I could never get into it and it was nowhere near as good as Goldeneye.

  • Bob

I once executed a 100+ hit combo with Eyedol in the arcade Killer Instinct. I don’t know exactly how many hits it was because the counter stopped at 99. I was THAT GOOD. I consider it the greatest achievement in my life.

  • pcch7

Oh, I remember the dudes from Xbox that were showing off the new Elite controller on all the channels mentioned that the joysticks are tested for wear and tear by machines and should be good for thousands of hours, basically forever is what one of them said. So no worries there.

  • RockJoker

I wonder what you ment by saying metal gear solid V trailer is hilarious, Sean.

  • Sean

    “Eye for an Eye
    Pain for Pain
    Skull for Skull”

The story looks absolutely ludicrous. But I’m mostly okay with that.

  • RockJoker

i see. well it always was that way. Kojimas style is a bit ridiculous at times. bit it has some charm to it. charisma. Kojima always delivers some unique goods with his storywriting. i personaly loved 1,2 and 3. 4 was great at times.
