Jay Baruchel to Direct Goon Sequel, Seann William Scott Will Return

A couple of years ago, it was announced that the brutal and hilarious hockey comedy Goon would be getting a sequel. Jay Baruchel and Jesse Chabot were in the process of penning the script and it looked like Michael Dowse would be returning to the director’s chair. This month, however, we have learned that someone else will be at the helm. After the recent success of his rom-com What If (aka The F Word), Dowse now has bigger fish to fry as he is directing a Vince Vaughn comedy called The Politician. So instead, directing duties for Goon 2 have fallen to the next logical choice: Jay Baruchel. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, Jay Baruchel will make his directorial debut with Goon: Last of the Enforcers, the sequel to the 2011 cult classic Goon. Seann William Scott will reprise his role as Doug “The Thug” Glatt, while Baruchel will also return on screen as Doug’s best friend Pat. Seth Rogen’s partner in crime Evan Goldberg is on board as executive producer.

The story will supposedly revolve around Doug’s team, the Halifax Highlanders, who find themselves inundated with new players during a pro lockout. Not much else is known about the movie, but Baruchel has been absolute adamant that the sequel will deliver the goods:

Either way, I am rooting for the guy and I really do hope that they can put together something that rivals the first film. Production is expected to start next month in Toronto. Are you looking forward to Goon 2?
