This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: American Sniper, Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Leviathan

dvdamericansniper

The highest grossing movie of 2014 leads this week’s slate of new releases as American Sniper finally arrives on DVD and Blu-ray. The only other major titles hitting stores this week include the critical and commercial flop Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and the George Lucas-produced animated film Strange Magic (which is apparently so bad it didn’t even require a Blu-ray release). Smaller indie releases include the Oscar-nominated Russian drama Leviathan, the Cannes hit Girlhood, and the Somali pirate documentary Last Hijack. TV releases include the second season of Orange is the New Black and Boardwalk Empire: The Complete Series, and new on Blu we’ve got quite a few interesting older films such as Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight, Mario Bava’s The Evil Eye (aka The Girl Who Knew Too Much) and Sam Peckinpah’s Robert Ludlum adaptation The Osterman Weekend plus the cult classic sex comedy Ski School. What will you be picking up this week? Check out the full list of new releases after the jump.

There is no full list after the jump…

It’s an Amazon widget so sometimes it takes a minute to load. Or it’s possible you might have some sort of ad blocker blocking it?

  • Colin

Must be the AB+ doing it.

More than willing to support you guys via premiums & merch, but I just can’t take the ads (it’s not you, it’s me)

  • Colin

I feel like I should make a suggestion that would help those of us who do use Ad Block but would like to support you guys beyond the usual ways…

Back in the early days of FJ, you guys used to have a segment at the end (for a few weeks at least) in which you’d run down what you were picking up that week. Perhaps something similar could be done for the site in which each of you guys selects a few choice items you’re looking forward to buying, and then compile them into an update with Amazon Affiliate links to the product pages… or even better, a list of all the movies mentioned on the show with Amazon Affiliate links; I can’t tell you how many times you guys have mentioned some old catalog title and I’m suddenly hit with the need to watch the thing and would gladly purchase it through a curated list here if it was made available.

Well this Amazon widget was an easy way to collect a bunch of Amazon Affiliate links in one place. But maybe we’ll have to find a different way to do it. It’s just a lot of work to do individual text links for everything. But maybe just a few highlights would be fine.

I’m just jonesin’ for a new ep. what do we got? mad max?

  • Captain Fram

I too have ye olde Ade Blocke installed, but I have disabled it for this site. Because love.

  • Does it matter to have adblock disabled for the site, even though I never click any of the ads?

  • Justin H

I think they get the revenue just for visits with ads visible. I’m probably wrong though.

  • Justin H

That’s because you’re good people. Good thing you didn’t take the alternative and ask the guys to do more work for your benefit along with free content all the while screwing them out of ad revenue.

  • Ah, ok. I’ll just disable the adblocker for the site to be safe. Thanks!
