Weekly Poll Results: Best Comic Book Movie

Well it came right down to the wire, but after The Dark Knight started with a huge lead, The Avengers eventually battled back to win last week’s comic book movie poll by just a couple of votes. Clearly these are still the two comic book movies to beat as far as most people are concerned and together they accounted for almost 50% of the votes. In third place, Captain America: The Winter Soldier also appears to have very quickly earned a reputation as one of the best superhero flicks ever made, while Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and the first Iron Man rounded out the top 5. Tim Burton’s Batman was the highest vote-getter from outside of the current comic book movie boom (ie. released prior to the year 2000). Beyond that, almost every movie on the poll seemed to have a handful of fervent supporters with both 300 and Superman II ending up in a tie at the bottom of the pile. Do you agree with these results?

Can’t say I’m surprised by the results but The Avengers comes nowhere near to being the best in my opinion. That honor belongs to Hellboy 2 and that wasn’t even an option.

Spider-Man 2 is better than every Marvel studios film.

  • Kenneth Serenyi

The Avengers is in my top 10 favorite movies of all time.

Avengers is TV at best, while TDK is Art no less.

Hmm… I didn’t get around to voting and now I regret it. No votes for Superman II? Really? Is the average age of the voters 15? Or are the effects too old? And nothing for First Class? Shameful. Where does all the love for The Avengers comes from? It’s a good superhero movie but there’s nothing unique or groundbreaking or particularly memorable about it, other than its scope. It boggles the mind.

It’s hard to pit superhero movies against stuff like Ghost World or things adapted from Graphic Novels. Superhero films are their own sub-genre and it was obvious they will dominate a poll like this.

  • It’s disappointing that a film like The Avengers would win the poll. There are much better superhero films on the list, Avengers wouldn’t even crack my top ten.
