    A discussion about relentlessly depressing movies and nobody mentions Ingmar Bergman?

    It’s a common myth that Waterworld lost money. It made 264 million world wide over a (then insane) budget of 175 million, so… not bad. The movie is more infamous for its troubled production and inflated budget.

    I’m sick and tired of these Marvel movies and can’t wait for the bubble to burst and slime us all.

    Hmm… I knew it wasn’t a hit but I didn’t know it lost money. Anyway, it’s a great movie nonetheless unlike some other box office bombs.

    Well, they were villains for a good portion of the movie before turning face, but come on, there’s no way the Avengers would have defeated that army of easily disposable machines without Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

    I wasn’t a big fan of either movie, but I didn’t think the DOFP prison break was that amazing and Quicksilver doesn’t have much additional screen time before being excluded from the final mission, which is a decision that doesn’t feel convincing or plausible to me at all. Avengers certainly has it’s own problems, so it’s more a case of finding one Quicksilver relatively more interesting than the other. Both movies are overstuffed with characters.

    The western genre was a bubble that burst. Westerns still come out from time to time, but nothing like they did in their heyday.

    Frank literally said Man Of Steel was a better movie than Age of Ultron. He actually meant that. Expecting to be taken seriously.

    Overstuffed they are, although that generally is an issue with X-Men in itself. Although I wouldn’t say the prison break scene in DOFP was amazing it was at least something original and something only Quicksilver could do, considering Charles was not able to use his powers. That they did not take him to Paris with them feels right to me. Quicksilver is not an X-Men, the whole Raven scenario is a matter for the people from the prior film including Logan. Quicksilver was a means to an end to get from act one to act two and this worked fine.
    Also, the AOU Quicksilver is not totally uninteresting but what Whedon does with him. He runs and punches and gets a – literal – running joke. That’s basically it. And he dies a hero. Considering that both, Whedon and Singer, claimed they absolutely needed the character for their film I’d say DOFP blows AOU out of the ring in that specific regard.

    (Sidenote: Just saw Sean gave Man of Steel a 4.5/5 on LBXD, WOAH!!)
    Man of Steel 3/5 > Age of Ultron 2.25/5 …. to put into perspective I just gave Young Einstein a 3/5 … i.e. they’re all not great

    I would definitely not agree that Man of Steel is better than Age of Ultron, but I do agree with you guys that Age of Ultron isn’t all that great.

    I pretty much hated the first Avengers movie because of how cheap it looked and how bland most of the action sequences were. Age of Ultron changed a lot in both those department for me. It looked better plus the action sequences had more weight behind them. In terms of characters, I liked how they pulled back Tony Stark’s charm and/or moment in the limelight and give way to the other characters to have some fun.

    Btw, I disagree with Frank and Sean on Man of Steel being better than AoU. For one, the action in AoU was better than it was in MoS.

    Sean cannot be trusted. It’s obvious in your voices that you relish taking the popular kids at Marvel down a peg, but then Sean turns around and force likes a crappy flick like Prometheus, because he likes Ridley Scott a lot. Well I’ve got news Sean… Ridley Scott is kind of a terrible director. Don’t even get me started on Man Of Steel.

    Have some class, and act like you’ve been there before boys!

    Also, what does Young Einstein have to do with anything?

    Talk about reading WAY TOO MUCH into what was, essentially, writing off having to pay two more expensive actresses to have a lame cameo.

  • Haha, and the only time they are mentioned is still just as trophies. Overall, that exchange must be the worst in the whole movie (including the much mentioned “testosteron!”.)
