Rodney Ascher’s The Nightmare Trailer: A Terrifying Documentary from the Director of Room 237

If you listened to our Hot Docs podcast last week, then you’ll know that Jay, Frank and I were all pretty freaked out by a documentary called The Nightmare. Directed by Rodney Ascher (Room 237), the movie investigates the phenomenon of sleep paralysis where people can regain consciousness after sleeping but be unable to move, often while experiencing vivid hallucinations. The movie interviews several people who have struggled with this throughout their lives and attempts to recreate their horrific visions on screen. The result is extremely effective and seriously disturbing. The Nightmare hits select theaters and VOD on June 5th. Check out the trailer after the jump… just don’t expect to be able to sleep tonight.

weird how that one silhouette looks like freddy with the hat.

Really looking forward to seeing this. I thought Room 237 was very creepy with the soundtrack and use of weird stock footage.

I noticed that this paralysis thing only happens to me while sleeping in the supine position. people say it is because I have such a tiny gay-ass jaw that it just blocks the airway when overly relaxed.. Jay with his prominent chiseled jawline probably never had such problems.

friend of mine had the sleep paralysis thing happen and the shadow man did visit… freaked him and his roommate and wife out what happened to him, they ended up moving to a different place very quickly.
