The Belgian horror film Cub was fairly well-received on the festival circuit last year, playing at both TIFF and Fantastic Fest and also earning director Jonas Govaerts the Best Director award at Sitges. The story revolves around a troup of cub scouts who encounter a crazed poacher and his feral son while camping in the woods. The movie was said to be pretty brutal and graphic, especially for a movie populated primarily by kids, which might explain why the plans for a theatrical release have been scrapped in favour of VOD which will happen day-and-date with the DVD and Blu-ray release. Either way, I’m sure North American genre fans will just be happy to know that they will get to see the movie at all.
