Monday Morning Box Office Report: Furious 7 Becomes the Fastest Movie to Reach $1 Billion

boxofficefurious7_3

For the third weekend in a row, Furious 7 ruled the box office with another $29 million, bringing its domestic total to $294 million. The real story, however, is the fact that the movie has already crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide in just 17 days. That’s two days less than The Avengers, Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 took to reach the same milestone. Pretty impressive stuff. Meanwhile, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 failed to live up to the original, opening to an unspectacular (but still decent) $24 million, thanks in part to poor reviews and stiff competition. In third place, the horror film Unfriended had a strong debut with $16 million, while Home and The Longest Ride rounded out the top 5. Meanwhile, the documentary Monkey Kingdom opened in seventh with the lowest debut yet for a Disneynature film… what does the world have against monkeys?

1. Furious 7 — $29.06M

Ironically animal-lover and Disney-enthusiast Frank skipped on “Monkey Kingdom” and might be responsible for sinking animal-movies by Disney forever.
