Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Teaser Trailer

batmanvsupermantrailer

Thanks to another grainy leaked video, Warner Brothers was forced to officially release the teaser trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a few days prior to its big screen debut in IMAX theatres. I have to admit, I am a bit surprised that the leaked version was actually legit because this whole thing is a pretty underwhelming way to introduce the DC Cinematic Universe to fans. Zack Snyder usually delivers much more interesting trailers than this, but it would seem that they have very little footage to show despite the fact that the movie started production a year and a half ago. Still, at least we get a glimpse of Batman’s exoframe and a bit of an explanation for the inevitable showdown. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theatres on March 25th, 2016; check out the first trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I got a bad feeling about this

  • ah

Looks and sounds amazing to me. Sean, watch this trailer reaction and get on board!

  • Sean

    Lol… I’m in

  • William Hill

Everything I’ve read and seen about this movie convinces me it’s nothing more than masturbation material for people who take the concept of superheroes way too seriously. I have a strong feeling this will be the movie that bursts the comic book movie bubble.

  • pcch7

Do you bleed? In pg13 I bet he won’t. Is Batman’s eyes lined with kryptonite or something?

  • 1138sw

I saw this earlier in the day..not the leaked one but the actual trailer…I guess the WB kind of gave up and said “whatever!” and put it out.

I’m starting to get a bad vibe from all this…I know WB wanted to jump on the comic bandwagon that Marvel literally masterminded into the war machine (no pun intended) it is today, but it seems they are really putting all their eggs into this basket versus building a more thought out schematic for their comic properties. Hey maybe they got something up their sleeve that I can’t see. But the WB has created great cinematic comic movies…the The Donner Superman, the Keaton Batmans and the Nolan Batmans…but at the same time they always have this ability to screw it up or at least derail any positive momentum…anyone remember the Richard Pryor Superman? The Joel Shumacher Batmans? and the Bryan Singer Superman?

Anyone have the feeling this could be a derailment? I hope not but we’ll see.

  • 1138sw

Now that is what I call a true epic fanboy. Lol!

  • FoxMulder

I just hate the Zack Snyder look. And that Batman suit, is it made out of papier mâché? Looks terrible.

  • Flo Lieb

I actually like the Singer Superman even though most people don’t.

  • ReelJunkie

I don’t know how anyone based on this teaser write the movie off. I think it looks quite brilliant. The production/visuals look a million times more polished than the Avengers films. And sure, the story might be gritty but that’s not a bad thing imo. Afterall it will be heavily influenced by the Dark Knight Returns story.

  • Tim

To quote Jay: “I`m not a fucking child.” , so who fucking cares about the gazillionst comicbook-product?

  • Lori Cerny

Did anyone notice the half-bra on the suit? I’d rather see nipples… it’s so distracting.

  • LordAwesome

As expected typical Snyder garbage. And incredibly portentous to boot.

  • Jameson

Love the Dark Knight Returns vibe but I’m cautiously optimistic, seeing as how most Zack Snyder movies have good trailers.

  • Reed Farrington

I didn’t like the Luthor plot in Singer’s Superman. I thought Brandon Routh made a decent Superman. I like his flippant portrayal of The Atom in Arrow as well.

  • Nuno

One of Snyder’s many problems is that he tries so hard for dark and gritty but ends up with dull and boring. I just don’t find his movies to be any fun at all. Pandering fan- service and no vision.

  • 1138sw

Gotta admit in Return of the Dark Knight by Miller it looks cool but onscreen it looks really really silly.

And what the hell with the totally overboard buff muscle bound heroes??? What are these guys on totally super ass steroids? How the hell do they move and fight crime??

  • B.J.

I hope this will be the guillotine for comicbook movies and the rebirth for films for actual adults.

  • 1138sw

I agree Reed I actually liked Routh as Superman…he definitely had the Reeve Vibe (plus he really closely resembles Reeve). And I too like him on the Arrow as Ray Palmer. But Superman Returns as whole was just to close to the original Superman in terms of plot and structure…the kid being the only unique element. I just felt Singer relied to much on Donner and not enough on originality. Plus Kate Bosworth was not a good Lois Lane.

  • Ray

nothing good will come of these DC films due to Snyder’s involvement, I’m completely confused as to why they have decided to give him both Justice League films too, the last Superman film sucked, and this looks dreadful

  • LordAwesome

His biggest problem is his inability to tell a story. His movies aren’t a cohesive whole, they’re just a collection of money shots.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

Portentousness is a great quality in a trailer.

  • pcch7

Me too, I thought Routh was great and the movie is alright. Better than Man of Steel.

  • schizopolis

I actually loved Man of Steel, though it has its problems. My only issue with this trailer is that visually it looks like Watchmen, which is totally inconsistent with the cinematography of Man of Steel. It’s almost like Tim Burton changing the visual look of Batman when he made Batman Returns. Batman Returns had a very B-movie/Mario Bava look to it.

  • DamnDirtyApe

Have you ever seen a comic book in your life?

The actors in all these Hollywood films are far punier and shorter than their counterparts in the comics. Thor needs to gain about 50lbs of muscle and the green woman Gamora from the Guardians of the Galaxy is supposed to be 6 feet tall and 170lbs.

If movies made them any less muscular/heroic they would look even sillier onscreen than they already do.

A couple of average dudes in tights and capes isn’t The Man of Steel vs The Dark Knight – it’s a bad cosplay convention post on Facebook.

  • kulzulu

the man of steel “cinematography” was a piece of garbage you might as well watch at a black screen

  • Flo Lieb

Indeed she was quite awful. As she usually is.

  • Ronald Lee Godwin

Look guys Filmjunk is LIFE, but just because Jay hates all this comic stuff doesn’t mean you need to dick ride and hate it also. I read these comments and know some of you guys are just waiting for Jays upvote. Let that man be him and you guys can like what you like! That being said, I loved this trailer!!!

  • 1138sw

It depends on what era of comic book you are talking about. The modern era of comics has more modern buff heroes but look at the Neal Adams, Dick Giordano, Irv Novick era of the seventies, their superheroes though ripped are much leaner and sleeker looking, not over muscle bound clods.

Also when Bale buffed up for Batman initially Nolan told him to tone it down cause he went to far. Nolan’s take was yeah be fit but don’t be a steroid clown.

I know what Snyder is drawing from…the Frank Miller over muscular look from the eighties which to me just looks ridiculous on screen. I understand Millers art evolution to a more exaggerated look, which suited the more hyped up narratives he pioneered with the Dark knight and Sin City. But Snyder seems to do things for whatever convoluted reasons he develops.

The marvel movies, sure the guys are big and Chris Hemsworth and evans are tall to begin with but they don’t look like muscle bound clowns. They’re fit hero looking without looking overstated and silly. And that’s hard when you’re making a comic book movie for sure!

I mean Carville in the Man of steel couldn’t put his arms close to the side of his body cause his arms were so GD huge! That just looked silly at times!

It’s just Snyder’s taste to delve in the over saturated, the over blown interpretation…and sometimes it really does work…but man sometimes it just looks plain silly.

  • Nuno

Seriously, how does Snyder keep getting passes?

  • Brittany Gresang

I don’t think this trailer is bad. But it doesn’t do anything to build confidence. I think it’s fair to go into this movie extremely skeptical.

  • DamnDirtyApe

Well it’s matter of personal taste, as well as expectations for the modern audience. You can see far bigger guys at the local gym. They are not large by any means. The Rock is starting to get there, as he’s pretty huge in his recent films.

Having said that, Snyder’s Dr. Manhattan was way too big in my opinion and looking weird. Snyder was trying to be faithful to the book, which I respect, but they overshot it.

I guess to me it’s more convincing/natural to see a muscle-bound clown in a superhero suit than a slightly larger than average person is a superhero suit.

I mean it’s ridiculous either way. It’s just what flavor of silliness do you prefer :)

  • Sunahdin

Well…..at least it’s not another superhero origin story. I liked the Man of Steel portrayal of Superman, and Batman does look pretty cool here, but the whole premise is a bit silly to me. Guess we’ll see if they can pull it off.

  • Reddy

Sorry BJ but what you’re saying doesn’t add up. Comic book movies can be enjoyed by adults just as much as “fanboys”. Just because hollywood is turning out comic book movies doesn’t mean there aren’t movies for “adults” whatever that’s supposed to mean. Just look at the nominees for best film at the Oscars, I’d bet they’d meet your “adult film” qualifications.

Overall it surprises me how much negativity there is for this BvS movie, personally I’m excited for it. I thought Man Of Steel was great. And I’m reserving judgment on Affleck til after I see the movie.

  • theo

Looks epic….the first BvS trailer, and the hate is flowing deep. This “first trailer” has made me totally forget the excitement I had for AoU. This teaser gave so little and so much at the same time.

…can’t say the same for that Fantastic 4 trailer though.

  • Nick Poliskey

At least the music sounds awesome. But yeah, the trailer sucks. I don’t know if it is because I saw the SW and Jurassic world trailer before it. But in comparison, it is by far the weakest.

  • Nick Poliskey

I agree with you about it being better than the AoU trailer. But I don’t think that is because this one is “good”, I think the AoU trailers are the weakest trailers of the year. Seriously.

  • Nick Poliskey

Routh wasn’t bad, but the problem with Singer’s Superman is it was just plain boring. IMO, comic book movies can have some big faults, but boring really should not be one of them.

  • ReelJunkie

What’s so bad about this trailer though? Can you point out some specifics? I thought seeing that Batsuit (which looks frickin brilliant btw) and Bat/Supes in the same frame would be enough to drum up excitement. It sure has done for me. From a visual standpoint it looks pretty awesome. My real concern is with how the story will pan out.

  • Balls

I don’t want my Superman to be dark. He’s supposed to be positive and inspirational. ‘You will believe a man can fly’. That’s what made the 1978 film so good. He wears red and blue and punches evil in the jaw. He doesn’t destroy cities and kill people like he did in Man of Steel. I’m not saying this movie is going to be shit because I haven’t seen it yet, but I don’t think Snyder understands the point of Superman. I think we can all agree that we’d prefer to see a Superman movie co-starring Robert Vaughan and Richard Pryor. Also, I showed this trailer to someone who doesn’t really care one way or another about comic book movies and she said “Why are they fighting? Shouldn’t they be friends?” Yes. They should be friends. Super Friends.
