Ant-Man Trailer #2

antmantrailer2

After the first teaser trailer for Ant-Man failed to generate much excitement online, it seemed pretty clear that the loss of Edgar Wright as a director had dealt a huge blow to what could have been another comedic Marvel film with its own unique look and feel. However, this week they have unveiled a second trailer that is definitely an improvement with a few moments of inspired humour and some interesting action set pieces as well. That being said, I can’t help but compare it to the tone of the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy, which were much more fun and offbeat. Something about this still feels flat to me. Either way, the new trailer also offers a better look at some of the supporting cast including Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne and Corey Stoll as Yellowjacket. Ant-Man hits theatres on July 17th; check out the new trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

I dig the offbeat nature of it and given the premise, I think we will get some creative action sequences. But the scope of the film looks kind of small to me. It just doesn’t scream ‘grand!’ like a Marvel summer blockbuster should. Feels more like something in the realm of Green Hornet or something.

Ya know I’m not sure what to make of this movie. I’m having a really hard time pinning it down…there does not seem to be any focus? Or at least that’s what the trailers seem incapable of capturing…the trailers seem all over he place. I’m waiting for the hook and to be honest there doesn’t seem to be any. I hope the movie proves it’s worth cause I’m definitely gonna check it out, but man I do have my doubts.

I think if Marvel has one huge summer blockbuster in the form of Avengers 2, than it’s ‘secondary’ film for the summer should be at least a little more toned down and small. Sort of like how last year Guardians of the Galaxy was a comedic space epic while Captain America: The Winter Solider was a little more focused espionage action/thriller.

This trailer has me much more interested in the film. The Ant-controlling side of it could lead to some fun solutions to actions scenes, and the shrinking/expanding thing makes for some dynamic fights. I also enjoyed the Thomas the Tank Engine gag, I hope the movie can keep its comedic tone throughout.

I’m not really familiar with much in the Marvel Universe, but a new character I don’t know much about has me on board.

  • I don’t know much about the more recent Ant-Man comics. I did read a lot of his earlier stuff. It started out pretty good but quickly became stale and repetitive. Then he became Giant Man and things took an ugly turn. Let’s hope that the movie is a lot better than those early comics.
