New on Netflix: Daredevil: Season 1, Boyhood, The Quiet Ones

netflixdaredevil

Netflix seems to have timed the debut of their new Daredevil series nicely as it arrives on a weekend with relatively little competition in theatres to draw people away. It seems likely that this will be one of their biggest original series to date, but if superheroes aren’t your thing, there is also the first season of AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire, a drama set during the personal computer revolution of the ’80s, and an hour-long special from the Ricky Gervais comedy Derek. Other new arrivals in the U.S. include the latest Hammer horror film The Quiet Ones, Norwegian underwater thriller Pioneer and the WWE wrestler documentary The Sheik, while Canadians get Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, Michael Clayton starring George Clooney and the horror comedy Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead. Will you be adding anything to your queue? Check out the full list of new additions after the jump.

Just saw the first episode of Daredevil! Loved it so far! The fighting is awesome and captures the Frank Miller, Dave Mazzucchelli, John Romita DD I loved as a kid growing up with comics!

Charlie Cox literally embarrasses Ben Affleck. I really enjoyed CC as DD and he (IMO) is so much better than BA!

I know there are people that love the Directors Cut of the original DD but I still hate that movie with a passion from JG as Electra, to the foul mistreatment of Bullseye to the acting of BA…and Mark Steven Johnson ruined that movie with a pretty pathetic vision.

I hope the rest of the series lives up to the first episode! So the far the reviews have been good and I tend to agree with them!

Sean you guys going to talk about it on your next podcast?

I watched the first episode and might watch another. I’ll talk about it briefly but I’m not sure if Jay and Frank have any interest.

  • I finished the series yesterday and I have to say I was quite impressed. I didn’t have high hopes for the series, considering that I really hate the movie and I tried reading Daredevil from the beginning (which was like torture… I didn’t even get 10 issues in before giving up that nonsense)

The Daredevil comic didn’t really become THE Daredevil that people came to like so much until over a decade into its run when Frank Miller made his name on the book, so you can pretty much skip everything up to that. His runs on the title were great (he came back a few times), with some other good arcs here and there, and the Brian Michael Bendis/Ed Brubaker stuff from about 2001-2009 or so was excellent too.
