New to Theatres This Weekend: Furious 7, Woman in Gold, Cheatin’

Furious 7

Assuming the Fast & Furious series continues along its current trajectory, we could be looking at a new April opening weekend record as Furious 7 hits theatres this Easter weekend. We could also be looking at our first $100 million debut of the year as the so-called summer movie season is shifting earlier every year. For obvious reasons, there are no other new movies in wide release, but It Follows is continuing to expand to more theatres while The Weinstein Company is offering up Woman in Gold starring Helen Mirren on 250 screens as potential counter programming. Also in limited release we have legendary animator Bill Plympton’s latest feature Cheatin’ and Effie Gray starring Dakota Fanning and Emma Thompson. What will you be watching this weekend?

Will Frank have the balls to review “It Follows” via a non close captioned screening?
    The suspense is bulding….

  • scoobydelite

Any plans to review It Follows on the show?

  • Sean

Not this week I don’t think. It’s still only playing in a handful of theatres in Canada.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

    Nothing to see here.

This made like $150,000,000. How can this not be seen as the nadir of cinema history? At least the Twilights and Hunger Games are made for kids – this is aimed for people our age, and we apparently lap it up like asses. I will not be listening to this weeks podcast – first miss in a decade. I can’t deal with this shit…

  • Mike

You realize the whole podcast isn’t about Furious Seven, right? In this beautiful digital age we live in, we actually have the ability to skip past things we don’t want to listen to.

  • MisterQuigley

Oh, I didn’t realize that, thank you Mike.

  • Lots of people go to movies to just be entertained. Nothing more. Furious 7 hits that sweet spot. Not to mention the Paul Walker death easily added to the totals.

Oh and 2015 has been dryyyyy for ‘turn off your brain & watch with a goofy grin’ flicks.

Look at this list and tell us which ones were multi-layered thought-provoking cinematic masterpieces.

Fast cars bro, and even faster woman. It is a time tested formula

Tell ya one thing…. I enjoy this over the top action thriller franchise more than the racially stereotyped “way” over the top Michael Bay Transformers films.
