It looks like the rumours are true and Paramount’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel will indeed feature everyone’s favourite hockey mask-wearing vigilante, Casey Jones. After a weekend of screen tests, Paramount and Platinum Dunes have already settled on an actor for the part and apparently it will be Stephen Amell, the star of The CW’s Arrow. He is the latest cast member to join the film after it was recently revealed that Brazilian supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio had also signed on to play Will Arnett’s love interest (yes, another Victoria’s Secret model in a Michael Bay film… shocking). According to Variety, Stephen Amell will play Casey Jones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2. He reportedly beat out several other actors for the role, mainly due to his chemistry with Megan Fox. I guess that confirms that he will also be a love interest for April O’Neil, although we can probably expect some verbal sparring in the vein of Elias Koteas and Judith Hoag in the original 1990 film.

At the moment it is unclear if his action scenes will utilize performance capture technology in the same way that the Turtles do. After all, Shredder was a CG character as well and it seems like it would be a lot harder to have one live actor in the mix (I think we can assume that Bebop and Rocksteady will also be CG). The movie is being directed by David Green (Earth to Echo) and is rumoured to be titled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Half Shell. What are your thoughts on how this sequel is coming together?
