One of the most buzzed about films coming out of Sundance this year was a coming-of-age comedy called Dope. The movie was acquired by Open Road Films and Sony Pictures for $7 million so clearly they have high hopes for it, but the first teaser is one of the more strange and unique trailers I’ve seen in quite some time. The story revolves around three Los Angeles high school misfits who are into punk rock and ’90s hip-hop culture, but they find themselves in a bit of trouble when they get involved in a drug deal gone wrong. However, the trailer seems to be a a strange kaleidoscope of footage of the film mixed with 8-bit video games and social media. What does it all mean? Dope hits select theatres on June 19th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
