Jason Segel to Write and Co-Direct Another Lego Movie Spin-Off

I think we all knew that the insane success of The Lego Movie would lead to a sequel, but the folks at Warner Brothers weren’t content to stop there. After years of churning out direct-to-DVD Lego animated movies, they have been quick to apply that formula to the big screen with several other Lego-related spin-offs. In addition to the Lego Ninjago movie coming later this year and the previously announced Lego Batman movie, now there is another original Lego animated movie in the works from none other than Jason Segel. The movie is called The Billion Brick Race but plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being. Hit the jump to find out what we know about the latest Lego flick.
According to THR, Jason Segel will write and co-direct an new Lego animated movie called The Billion Brick Race. His partner for the project will be Drew Pearce, who wrote the scripts for Iron Man 3 and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and also created the superhero spoof TV series No Heroics. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee are all on board as producers.
Obviously Segel is no stranger to family-friendly films having co-written and starred in The Muppets for Disney a few years back. But what will this movie be about? The title seems to imply a race in the vein of The Cannonball Run or It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World, but at the moment it is unclear. What do you think, does this sound like it has potential or are Warner Brothers already in danger of running the Lego movie franchise into the ground?
