The X-Files Officially Returning to TV

The truth is still out there, and in the thirteen years since The X-Files ended, it would appear that Mulder and Scully have never stopped wanting to believe. Following up on the rumours that surfaced back in January, the contracts have now been signed and the deals are in place for David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to return for another season of The X-Files. This week they have officially announced that the show will be returning to Fox for a six-episode event series sometime this summer. Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, had this to say about the announcement:
“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of The X-Files — one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers — and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again… The X-Files was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as The X-Files, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”
Series creator Chris Carter also remarked that “the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories”, which would seem to indicate that each episode will be relatively self-contained. At the moment it is unclear if any other former writers or producers will be involved or if Chris Carter will be scripting every episode himself. Clearly they are modelling this after the 24: Live Another Day event series which was a big hit for Fox last summer. Are you excited about the return of Mulder and Scully?
