    South Dakota or North Dakota?
I’ve always wanted to see ‘Mount’ Rushmore myself.

It’s also great hearing Sean read excerpts from the book aloud; a new career in audiobook narration maybe?

Frank’s response, “Is she gonna eat the tampon or what?”…Amazing.

  • devolutionary

This is what was trending on twitter right?

Don’t know that much about the 4th cone (super vision test) discussion but regarding optical illusions, our eyes typically want to create greater contrast between objects in shadow and direct light. There’s a great resource that points out how the eye tries to overcompensate perspective.

Believe it or not, Square B is actually the same colour as Square A although Square A is still darker than the darkened squares around it.

  • Frankie Knuckles

I honestly see blue and black in all of them #4thCone

  • devolutionary

You clearly are a superhuman Frank! Do you have X-ray vision too?

  • Sam

I’m the same too. I can’t see white and gold at all, even in the one’s where they attempt to emphasize the white and gold.

  • Lori Cerny
  • Lori Cerny

I honestly see an ugly dress.

  • devolutionary

Yeah that’s one of them. Apparently certain birds have the 4th cone which allows them to distinguish colours in a greater spectrum of ultraviolet light.

    It’s called Tetrachromacy.

  • Jay Cheel

    38. I’m a four coner.

  • Sam

I haven’t watched it yet, but plan to, but would toss out the possibility of watching Mommy for next week’s review. Was on a lot of end of year lists for 2014 and I have this feeling you guys should be able to watch it for the show.

If not, maybe something that is already out and been getting some okay reviews like Black Sea or Focus?

  • devolutionary

Mommy would be a good choice, unfortunate that it got a very limited theatrical release. Another one could be Winter Sleep though it’s pretty long (directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan who did Once Apon A Time in Anatolia).

  • MisterQuigley

Thanks Sean, I’m about to get on a 2hr flight, and the airline doesn’t make you turn off your devices. God bless you guys…

  • Sam

I don’t think I see Frank, or even Sean and Jay all sitting down for 196 minutes for Winter Sleep. Frank could watch Dumbo over three times in that time frame!

It’s partly the reason I haven’t checked it out yet. I plan to eventually, since I really liked Once Upon a Time in Anatolia and Distant.

  • Love it when there’s a new episode and runtime>150 min :D

  • Same for me. I’ve been trying to see the gold/white but can’t for the life of me!

  • SEAN drop everything and record an audiobook for 50 Shades of Grey in lieu of the next premium podcast. That was magical.

  • kent88

Tom at the Farm might be more to their taste. I would love to hear the guys discuss a Xavier Dolan film though. Talk about a divisive filmmaker.

There’s also Two Days, One Night with Marion Cotillard.

One I think they would like (especially Jay) is ’71.

But hey, we always suggest these foreign movies and they constantly gets shut down in favor of like Predestination or The Voices or something ;)

Except Leviathan, credit where credit is due.

  • Sam

Forgot that they never discussed Two Days, One Night.

I planned to check out ’71 soon too, so wouldn’t mind them covering that either.

  • Mark

Should I be worried if my USB drive hasn’t arrived yet? Hope this isn’t a goober-ish question.

  • Sam

I don’t think so. They said on the show that people just started getting them now (I got mine a couple days ago), but they finally just got done shipping out the last batch of the initial run. Sean said give it about another 1-2 weeks, so I’d wait that long before getting worried.

  • Frankie Knuckles

My Share just went out this weekend. So no reason to worry.

  • bullshitdetector
  • devolutionary

    Very interesting.

  • Mark

Ah! Probably should have started listening to the show before asking. Thanks for the heads up, Frank and Sam!

  • Frankie Knuckles

    LOL … this is amazing

  • Lori Cerny

    Jan de Bont after stitches.

~ This picture alone should make the movie a “Five Star” film. Yikes!!!!

  • Lori Cerny

Soooo, according to the last paragraph in the article… Frank has two X chromosomes. Does this prove that Frank has “mom mentality”?

  • Essie

thank you guys a lot for the show, needed a distraction today and you guys are always there. looking forward to wes anderson premium so much, please go easy on darjeeling!

  • Loren

Well if they do review “Two Days, One Night” with Marion Cotillard, REED will be on the show (Which would be great), because he luuuuuvs himself some Coltillard!

  • Stanley Puberick

I was intrigued by your discussion of Housebound, a movie I’ve heard about in passing, and as I’m easily hooked by twist or weird endings I decided to start watching it. I’m racking my brain trying to figure out what movie Sean thinks Jay would compare it to. I’ll repost once I get to the twist. Anyone who saw this movie have any idea?

  • Stanley Puberick

So far it kinda reminds me of The Burbs

  • kent88

I’m a little surprised you didn’t discuss the most crucial thing in regards to The Jinx…

    Log on Letterboxd or not?

I think I’ll say yes. If you’d log SHOAH or THE STAIRCASE you should log this thing. Unless of course there’s a Season 2 at some point, which I doubt.

  • Bandit Manatee

count me in with the can’t see Gold and White crowd. There are a few pics where the photo is clearly overexposed and I can see that they are clearly making it look a little lighter colored but I can clearly discern the true colors of blue and black.

But that is the thing that makes the whole thing extra confusing, and sort of overblown in my opinion. The multiple photos floating around the internet. I want to see a scientific study showing people only certain photos. Then compare the reactions of the different groups that were shown the different versions of the photo. I am guessing there would be much more consensus if you did a controlled experiment using a well composed photograph.

  • I love it because Frank was clearly getting super uncomfortable, hence his blurting about the tampon. If Sean does do an audiobook I think Frank should have to be in the room the whole time.

  • ECONOMYpolitica

I’m glad I’m not the only one annoyed by those YouTube videos. They make me want to kill someone.

  • TP222

The background sounds while Sean read that scene made me choke on my lunch. hahahahaha

  • Colin

4th Coney 2015 is one of Jay’s greatest ad libs

  • LordAwesome

Jay is spot on about Ghostbusters 2.

To quote the movie: “Do, re, go fuck yourself Frank.”

    King of Comedy my ass.

  • frankw35

I’m demanding that Reed Farrington’s next taped-for-the-show acting lesson be scenes from “50 Shades.”
OK, with that out of the way thought people might be interested in this New Yorker writer’s self-righteous critique of “The Jinx.” Basically she sympathizes with the body-dismemberer and tries to make us feel dirty for watching the show.

    http://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/robert-dursts-grotesque-confession

  • kent88

I know you guys said you had no interest to check out ALL GOOD THINGS, but apparently the Blu-ray comes with an audio commentary with Andrew Jarecki and Robert Durst. That sounds like it could be pretty interesting.

  • Michael Bay

As a pretentious reader with a stick up my ass I’d like to dispute Frank’s notions on reading.

Books allow a far richer story to be told and require a dedication of time that dwarfs any film thus far. There are few, if any, limitations on fiction’s subject matter and often directly portray the thought process of another consciousness. This makes literature an art form that can be far more esoteric in its design.

  • Maureen W.

You guys have probably already seen this but just in case you haven’t, here is a blog post by Roar’s cinematographer:http://randolphsellars.com/extreme-projects/the-most-dangerous-movie-ever-made-part-1

  • Lori Cerny

Thanks for the “Housebound” recommendation, Sean. Just finished it and I was delighted throughout. The film had the right blend of horror and quirkiness.

  • Sean

    That does sound intriguing.

  • Sean

No problem, glad someone else enjoyed it as well!

  • Lori Cerny

I think listing any movie that the film is comparable to may be spoilery.

  • ProjectGenesis

Two things I love about Caddyshackk II.

    1) Dan Aykroyd’s performance and the whole Mr. Sanderson/Mrs. Esterhouse bit. It’s hilarious.

    2) Randy Quaid’s speech in the boardroom is legendary. “Now, I’d like to explain a little bit about the Peter Blunt system….”

  • Frankie Knuckles

The Peter Blunt system is my favorite part of the movie. Rewound that part and watched it at least 700 times as a child.

  • I have yet to buy a Premium Podcast, I would buy this.

  • Tim

Jay´s sexual frustration is reaching new highs and I absolutely LOVE IT!!
This Dear Junkies could be the seed to ignite Jay´s first long-awaited rant in 4 austere years.
