Toy Story 4 Gets a Co-Director, Won’t Be a Continuation of Toy Story 3

When it was first announced that Pixar was working on Toy Story 4, many fans were understandably worried. After all, Toy Story 3 was the perfect conclusion to an amazing trilogy and messing with that could be a big mistake. Fortunately, the people working on the film are at least aware of that fact and seem to have something in mind that will not be directly tied to the previous trilogy. Also, they have decided to give John Lasseter a helping hand by adding a co-director to the mix. Hit the jump for more details.
In an interview with Disney Latino, Pixar president Jim Morris had this to say about Toy Story 4:
“The third movie ended in a beautiful way and completed a trilogy. I think this movie is not part of this trilogy. It is a separate story, which in turn I do not know if will be continued. Never begin a project with that in mind… It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. Temporarily it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy. It will not put much focus on the interaction between the characters and children. I think it will be a very good movie.”
The romantic comedy thing makes a bit of sense considering that the script is being written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, who previously penned the relationship dramedy Celeste and Jesse Forever. In more recent news, Disney Pixar also announced via Twitter that Josh Cooley is co-directing the film. Cooley served as head of story for Pete Docter’s Inside Out and also directed the short George & A.J.. What do you think, does any of this news make you more comfortable with the idea of a new Toy Story film?
