After directing both of the Crank movies together along with Gamer and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor decided it was finally time to go their separate ways. Last we heard, Brian Taylor was attached to direct a Twisted Metal movie and Mark Neveldine was taking on a found footage exorcism movie called The Vatican Tapes. While we still have yet to hear anything more about the former, the first trailer for the latter has arrived online this week.

The Vatican Tapes stars Michael Peña and Djimon Hounsou as a pair of priests tasked with reviewing video footage of exorcisms to try and figure out Satan’s plan. When they discover one particularly disturbing tape, they realize that young Angela Holmes may be possessed by the Antichrist himself. Although Neveldine and Taylor have delivered some trashy fun in the past, this looks like pretty much like every other horror movie coming out as of late. There are however, some small hints of some over-the-top action in there, so let’s hope this is a little more unhinged than it seems. The Vatican Tapes hits theatres on May 22nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
