After making a successful transition from MMA fighter to action star with Haywire and Fast & Furious 6, Gina Carano is finally about to get her shot at starring in a comic book movie. Although many fans wanted to see her play Wonder Woman, we all know that Gal Gadot ended up getting that gig instead. This week we are hearing that Carano will be joining Fox’s X-Men universe after signing on to co-star in Deadpool alongside Ryan Reynolds. She isn’t the only supporting cast member, however, as we are also hearing that some other familiar X-Men characters may turn up in the film. Hit the jump for more info.

According to THR, Gina Carano has closed a deal to play Angel Dust in Fox’s upcoming Deadpool movie. Angel Dust is a member of the Chicago faction of the Morlocks, a group of mutant outcasts who live underground. She has superhuman strength, speed and agility, but dark lines appear on her face when she makes use of her powers.

It’s unclear if this is the same lead female role that Fox was already testing several actresses for. TJ Miller also has a supporting role in the film along with The Transporter: Legacy star Ed Skrein (the latter possibly being the villain). It is also now believed that Colossus will appear in the film in some capacity although there is no mention of whether Daniel Cudmore might reprise his role. Deadpool is being directed by Tim Miller and hits theatres on Feb. 12th, 2016. Are you happy with the way this movie is shaping up?
