The Movie Club Podcast Episode #30: Popeye and Punch Drunk Love

The Movie Club Podcast is an irregular roundtable podcast where we select two movies to dissect, analyze and discuss with a group of fellow movie bloggers and film fans.

It’s been over a year since the last episode, but believe it or not The Movie Club Podcast is still alive and kicking! Kurt from Row Three finally managed to round up another great collection of folks to talk about this month’s sort of Valentine’s Day-themed selections: Robert Altman’s live action cartoon Popeye (1980) and P.T. Anderson’s unconventional rom-com Punch Drunk Love (2002). How can you resist discussions about either of these films?

Participants this time around include Bob Turnbull from Eternal Sunshine of the Logical Mind, Jim Laczkowski from The Director’s Club Podcast and Matthew Price from Mamo!. The next episode will feature John Frankenheimer’s The Train and Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer. Head on over to The Movie Club Podcast website to grab the latest episode and leave your thoughts over there in the comments.

  • T. Heilman

I don’t know how a first time viewing would go if you didn’t see it back in 1980. Nostalgia plays a huge part with that film, though it does feature a lot of Altman trademarks.

  • Brad Lincoln

So happy to see another one of these come out.

  • Kurt

Thanks for the plug, guys! Here is hoping schedules align to have some Film Junk Crew on the next one.

Which should record in late March.
