We’ve got three major releases hitting theatres this weekend and odds are at least one of them will finally take down American Sniper at the box office. The Wachowskis unveil their first original sci-fi story in over a decade with Jupiter Ascending, a space opera starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis. From what we’re hearing it’s pretty out there. Meanwhile the long-delayed fantasy flick Seventh Son starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore also finally sees the light of day alongside the SpongeBob SquarePants sequel The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. In select theatres, look for the Ryan Reynolds dark comedy The Voices plus the romantic comedy Love, Rosie starring Lily Collins and Sam Claflin. What will you be watching this weekend?

Based on showtimes I’m seeing, the only one that’ll have a chance of taking down Sniper is Spongebob

I expect Jupiter Ascending to flop, but it’s too bad, as the Wachowskis are in the group of very few filmmakers that take big chances. I’ll watch it this weekend.

I wonder how Jupiter Ascending will do. I like the Wachowskis but lately they really haven’t had any real cinematic financial impact since the Matrix.

I for one did like Cloud Atlas and thought it was intriguing storytelling.

But the casting in this movie leaves much to be desired…Milas Kunis comes across as a light weight and I still think Tatum can’t act out of a bag but I will admit he does comes across as a nice guy on screen. But the scenes I’ve seen for Jupiter Ascending look terrible and I find Kunis really out of place in this movie.
