Live-Action Zelda Series in the Works at Netflix

Netflix continues to impress this week by essentially proving that there is no company on earth that won’t consider working with them. While movie studios have been scavenging the game industry for potential big screen franchises for years now, the one major company that has remained resolute in their refusal to work with Hollywood has been Nintendo. And can you blame them? After the disaster that was the Super Mario Bros. movie, they have not wanted to risk tarnishing their brand again. However, this week we are hearing that one of Nintendo’s biggest video games franchises, The Legend of Zelda, is in the process of being adapted as a Netflix Original Series. After all these years, could they actually deliver what fans have been asking for?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is currently in the process of developing a live action series based on The Legend of Zelda video game series. They are describing it as “Game of Thrones for a family audience” and are currently seeking writers to work on the show. They are stressing that it is still very early and that Netflix or Nintendo could potentially kill the project before it gets off the ground.

Netflix is said to be working closely with Nintendo on the show, which is not surprising considering how protective they are known to be. Late last year we heard rumours that Sony might be working on a new animated Super Mario Brothers movie, but the deal was never officially closed. Interestingly, the last time we heard anything about a Zelda feature film, Nintendo hinted that they wanted to find a way to make it interactive. Either way, make no mistake… this would be a huge deal if it actually happens. Are you interested in a live-action Zelda series?
