Monday Morning Box Office Report: American Sniper Breaks Super Bowl Weekend Record

Another weekend, another stellar turn out for American Sniper. The Clint Eastwood film now holds the Super Bowl weekend box office record with $31.85 million, a distinction previously held by the Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert film. It’s all the more impressive considering that a large chunk of American Sniper‘s target audience was probably busy watching the big game. In second place, Paddington earned $8.51 million just barely edging out Project Almanac, which was the best of the new releases (but still a flop). Project Almanac marked the second worst debut for a Platinum Dunes movie ever, just behind The Hitcher remake. Black or White and The Boy Next Door rounded out the top 5. Not surprisingly, The Loft was a complete dud, opening in tenth place with just $2.88 million.
