300: Rise of an Empire Director Wanted for Aquaman, Karl Urban Also Rumoured

Now that Michelle MacLaren has been confirmed as the director for the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, the next four DC Universe projects have filmmakers officially attached (Zack Snyder is handling Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League: Part One, while David Ayer is directing Suicide Squad). That brings us to their two 2018 releases as the next subject of speculation. Although The Flash is scheduled to hit theatres four months before Aquaman, the latter is the one that is already seeing some movement. Last month’s Sony leak indicated that Jeff Nichols (Mud) might be signed up for Aquaman, but now we’re hearing that another name is in the mix: 300: Rise of an Empire director Noam Murro.

According to Latino Review, Noam Murro impressed the higher-ups at Warner Brothers with 300: Rise of an Empire… so much so that he is now being considered for Aquaman. It makes a certain amount of sense considering that he also worked closely with Zack Snyder on that film and was able to emulate his visual style, which would help keep this film consistent with the other DC Universe movies. And lets’s face it: even though Jeff Nichols is a much more interesting director, I find it hard to believe he would be willing to take on a blockbuster of this magnitude.

In related news, Karl Urban is also supposedly being pursued for a supporting role in the film, possibly the villain. While it’s unclear who that might be (Black Manta? Are there even any others?) they are said to be aiming their production start for after Star Trek 3 wraps. Aquaman will star Jason Momoa and is scheduled to hit theatres on July 27th, 2018. How do you feel about this latest batch of Aquaman rumours?

I’d rather see Urban play Aquaman and Momoa play the villain!

Agreed nothing against Jason Momoa love a lot of his work but this is a bad casting choice image wise I mean aqua man is Caucasin with blonde hair I mean really what’s with Hollywood always trying to change the images of beloved and iconic superheroes I bet they wouldn’t choose a Caucasian actor to play Cyborg right. Comics are graphic novels meaning image is just as memorable and important as the literature and canon is to fans. If Hollywood wants to push political views and otherwise do so in movies that aren’t based off anything already established and stop ruining popular culture and childhood memories because when fans go watch these on screen adaptations they expect to see exactly what they are expecting something familiar and true to what they have read and followed for years not a new take or image for the wrong reasons.
